The Spring Equinox

Equinox = ‘equal night’~ from Latin‘aequus’ and ‘nox’.  There are two equinoxes in a year, in March and September, when the sun shines directly on the equator and the length of day and night is almost equal.  In March, in the northern hemisphere, it is known as the Spring equinox and in the southern hemisphere as the Autumnal equinox.  (Please note that this article refers to the seasons of the northern hemisphere.)
